POSSO Spotlight: Vivelina da Silva

Nascida em Vila de São Sebastião, Terceira, Vivelina juntou-se à POSSO em 2019 e continua sempre a ser uma parte crítica da nossa equipa. Extremamente trabalhadora e comprometida, Vivelina é uma das razões pelas quais nosso programa de nutrição é tão popular. Vivelina foi apresentada a POSSO pelo marido, Jose Silva. Jose é voluntário na POSSO e muitas vezes incentivou Vivelina a comparecer aos nossos eventos. Vivelina começou a trabalhar na POSSO durante o COVID. Desde o dia em que começou, Vivelina marcou sua presença na cozinha. Como uma de nossas cozinheiras, Vivelina muitas vezes é responsável por preparar a sopa e ajuda em tudo que é necessário para alimentar mais de 350 pessoas todos os dias. Quando questionada sobre o motivo pelo qual escolheu trabalhar na POSSO, Vivelina respondeu, “A POSSO é uma família. Gostamos de passar tempo juntas no trabalho e fora do trabalho. Gosto especialmente de ajudar em eventos e de participar na Festa É Festa porque incentiva a nossa comunidade a passarem algum tempo no nosso centro. Nas horas vagas, Vivelina gosta de se divertir com a sua família e amizades.

Born in Vila de São Sebastião, Terceira, Vivelina joined POSSO in 2019 and has remained a critical part of our team ever since. Extremely hard-working and committed, Vivelina is one of the reasons our nutrition program is so popular. Vivelina was introduced to POSSO by her husband, Jose Silva. Jose volunteers at POSSO and often encouraged Vivelina to participate in our events. Vivelina started working at POSSO at the height of COVID-19. Since the day she started, Vivelina has made her presence felt in the kitchen. As one of our cooks, Vivelina is often responsible for preparing the soup and helps with whatever else is needed to feed 350+ people daily. When asked why she chose to work at POSSO, she replied “POSSO is a family. I like that we enjoy spending time together both at and outside of work. I’ve especially enjoyed helping with events and attending Festa e Festa because it encourages our community to spend time at our center.” In her spare time, Vivelina enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Portuguese Classes

Starting October 7
Classes will be held on Mondays and follow the Santa Clara Unified School schedule.

14+ years of age: 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
8-13 years of age: 6 p.m.-7 p.m.
4-7 years of age: 6 p.m.-7 p.m.

$30 registration fee per student.
Last day to register is October 11

Monthly fees:
$55 per student 1^st member of family
$35 per student 2^nd member of family
$25 per student 3^rd+ member of family

Drinks, Madeira-style skewers, garlic prawns, meat “rissois”, shrimp “rissois”, sweet rice, “dona amelias”, “queijadas de nata”, and “espécies.
Face painting and so much more!

O ano fiscal da POSSO terminou em 30 de junho de 2024. Foi um ano repleto de crescimento, amizade e aventura. Novos eventos, como as aulas de culinária, caminhadas de terceira idade e noites de chammarita, complementaram antigas tradições, como o nosso almoço de Ação de Graças e o piquenique anual em Seacliff. Embora haja muito para comemorar e agradecer, uma coisa é certa: não poderíamos ter feito o que fizemos sem você! Obrigada a todos que doaram à POSSO neste último ano fiscal. Sabemos que você tem muitas opções quando se trata em doar e estamos muito gratos por você ter escolhido a POSSO. Graças à sua generosidade, conseguimos concluir reparos necessários e manutenção do edifício. Além de consertar o ar condicionado, no ano passado também remendamos o telhado, fizemos extensos trabalhos de encanamento na recepção, cozinha e refeitório, pintamos e instalamos novo piso no andar de cima, substituímos luzes do teto e dos banheiros e aumentamos a segurança do edifício. Nada disso teria sido possível sem doadores generosos como você. Obrigada mais uma vez pela sua dedicação, gentileza e amizade.

POSSO’s fiscal year ended on June 30, 2024. It was a year filled with growth, friendship, and adventure. New events, such as POSSO’s senior walks and chammarita evenings, complemented long traditions, such as our Thanksgiving luncheon and annual picnic in Seacliff. While there is much to celebrate and be thankful for, one thing is for certain—we could not have done what we did without you! Thank you to everyone who donated to POSSO this last fiscal year. We know that you have a lot of choices when it comes to donating, and we are so grateful that you chose POSSO. Because of your generosity, we were able to complete much needed building repairs and maintenance. In addition to fixing the air conditioning, last year we also patched the roof, had extensive plumbing work done in the front office, kitchen and dining hall, painted and installed new flooring upstairs, replaced ceiling lights and toilets, and increased building security. None of this would have been possible without generous donors like you. Thank you again for your commitment, kindness and friendship.
